Third vote for the Las Colinas/Lake Carolyn area in the vicinity of the Toyota Music Factory. We are in Southlake, but my oldest (28) and his wife are in a 1BR apt right on Lake Carolyn Pkwy. Great walking trails, restaurants everywhere, train stop across the street, easy access to both airports and tons of young people.

Great place to start and figure out where you really want to be.

The OP is in mid 20s and isn’t ready to buy. Just better areas suited for him to rent in.

Frisco is the best place in the DFW area, unless you have a preference for small towns.

My son who has saved every dollar he’s ever made & is 18 is about to buy 3 acres, cash.

At 18, I certainly thought I knew where I would settle down. Then from 22-29, Mrs. Cotten and I lived in 3 different states.

Buying a home cash is great advice right now, especially with interest rates so fricking high. Just float the equity from home to home, that's exactly what we did. Just advising someone to buy up land on a "short notice" move? Stupid.

Short answer w/ limited parameters- The Village

This, wide variety of apartment styles and near all the stores you would need for daily things (Wal-Mart, Target, etc). My daughter lives in there, they have an awesome gym for the residents.

North Dallas near Belt Line and the DNT

I’d look a little further north at an apartment in the Legacy West complex if you are looking to rent and get a feel for the different areas of DFW.

The Uptown area would be a blast but you are not going to be centrally located and will probably stay in that bubble. When you decide to buy, finding an affordable home in a good school district there will give you sticker shock.

Las Colinas would be a good rental option, too, but I don’t know any specific complexes to recommend.

My first apartment in DFW was in this area. Loved it, but my office was also on Legacy.

Get a Cowboy Hat, some nice boots and a Texas Timex and you will fit right in.

The Village is a good recommendation too. I lived near there for a bit of time but just outside the formal village area. There’s a huge swing in price range…some are old and cheap and others upscale. Choose wisely on the specific apartment complex within it. Area town is excellent for someone mid 20s.

If I were mid-20's and looking to rent I'd stay the hell out of the suburbs.

This is correct. You want to look at Lower Greenville, Victory Park, Uptown, Knox Henderson, the Village area. Avoid anything near Deep Ellum.

Best advice is to contact Smart City Apartment Locators ( LINK) and they will help you find the right place. Give them your budget, area, preferences, ask for advice, and they will get you a list of places that fit and they usually have a hookup on deals. They work primarily with the nicer apartments so you don't have to deal with crap. All of their agents are in their 20s too so they prob have the same preferences. It's completely free to use. I've used them in all 3 of my moves and was very happy with the work they did. All of my friends use them too.

This and I would add the Medical District near UT Southwestern/ Maple Avenue and North Oak Cliff on Ft Worth Avenue and around Bishop Arts. There has been so much new stuff built all over Dallas in the last 2 years its mind boggling. Rents aren't cheap though. I've aslo seen small single family houses in the $2500 to $3000 range in Oak Cliff near Bishop Arts and Lower Greenville/ Lakewood area. I live in the Lower Greenville area and its my favorite area of Dallas. We walk to a lot of bars and restaurants or take a short Uber to most anyplace in Dallas proper.
