re: LSU basketball transfer portal watch

There were several hundred D1 players that entered the portal last year that did not find a home on a D1 team and many of them were 1st timers. Going the portal route does not come free of risks to the player, especially if they are on a 2nd or 3rd transfer. Many uninformed players that aren't elite lose that opportunity of a free ride. I don't think the NCAA will blink an eye to enforce its requirements - schools and players knew in advance that an immediate eligible 2nd transfer was not a given.

So are we at the point now where the roster is complete or do we still have room? Do we fill it with what is left to choose from in the portal? Is there any players worth taking left in the portal?

Possibly. But I don't know how good of a tradeoff that would be. Cook has proven himself to be a good player in a better league.
Also, it may be fascinating to see what the NCAA does with second time transfers. If they stick to their position of no waivers except for very rare circumstances that could throw college basketball into a state of chaos given how many second time transfers have committed to joining new teams.
If Cook and others like him are denied waivers, do they simply choose to sit out a year? Or, do they try to return/stay at their current school simply in order to play next season rather than sitting out? Does that mean a guy like Miller would likewise choose to return to LSU rather than sitting a year at ASU? What if (as LSU has) teams have already filled the spots of departing players with new players?
In the NCAA's defense, they came out before the portal opened and said waivers would not be as freely given as before and outlined situations that would not warrant a waiver being granted. So either the players/coaches have inside knowledge the second-time guys they signed will be eligible regardless of what the NCAA said, or they simply disregarded the warning to their own peril
If Cook sits out, does he count against the 13 scholarship limit? If he doesn't, then we would have 2 openings left, so I suppose we could let Cook sit out, and then take Miller and/or Hayes back if the NCAA enforces the rules. I don't like the tradeoff, but Hayes could run the point, and maybe Miller will improve with the additions of Stewart and Wright to help him.

Still counts as a scholarship even if sitting a year.

What makes you think miller wants to come back to lsu?
Cook would count.

Miller is not coming back. Nor is Hayes for that matter.

The comment about Miller or Hayes returning is only if the NCAA enforces the rule to force players to sit out next season. Under that circumstance, either Miller or Hayes could easily come back rather than sitting out, and likewise Cook would probably return to Tulane.

Gotcha, I see your point there

Julian Phillips in portal from Tenn

Doubt he would be interested, but we are full anyway.

Shocker. Seems like such a good kid. Not after money at all

McNeese lock.
Seriously, he was invited to the NBA combine, so I suspect this is just a leverage move.
Still, he liked LSU enough to commit here at one point. Perhaps the same NIL person in play then could still be in play now. It’s a VERY LONG shot, but you at least have to make a call, right?

Is he originally from Baton Rouge or South Louisiana? Oh, he's not, I'm sorry, we're not interested.
Who was the NIL connection for him last year? I'm assuming it was a combo of NIL and playing for Wade.

He is from South Carolina

He was looking for money and Wade paid him. We aren’t doing that right now bc of the NOA that came about from Wade’s actions.
Until that’s settled i seriously doubt we will be landing 5 stars.

Money for men's basketball nil will be limited until a coach with a pulse is hired.

I know it’s unpopular and hurts peoples feelings but if you think the administration is gonna jump right back into that game in the immediate aftermath of the Wade NOA, then I don’t know what to tell you.
We have to “do it the right way for a couple of years” and let it die down, take our punishment and move on.
McMahon is likely a place holder. If he works out great, but I’m sure Woodward will aim a lot higher once the smoke clears

The problem is offering a placeholder too long of a contract with too big a buyout. We should have gone a shorter term route until sanctions (if any) were determined.
Things move too fast in the modern landscape to limit one's optionality, IMO.

It’s legal now. Hunter Dickinson just openly admitted he left Michigan for Kansas so he can get paid more. You can either figure out a way to get them paid or you’ll miss out.

Scott was handicapped when hiring MM.With the NCAA hovering
over the BB program SW had to offer a long term contract
to attract any canidate.
It suprises me that LSU BB fans cant see the problems SW
had in this deal.
