Thanks for all the info....which I'll come back to. But I need to work on flights getting there first. I'm not done but so far in my initial looking is it at all possible to make it to Long Island all in same day flying with Bahamas Air?

It seems a night stay in Nassau is unavoidable. Maybe you know of some helpful tips there.

Using google maps it says it would take 2 hours to drive from each end. Does that sound right? My wife and I like quiet trips and seeing minimal people which Cape Santa Maria seems to offer. But we do like to rent a car and explore and I don't like the idea of driving most of the island each day. I'm going to look around for any other quiet looking places with more of a beach thats towards the middle of island.

I've always made it in one day, but it seems MSY (if that's where you're flying from) doesn't have direct to Nassau flights which is weird. I can't help with staying in Nassau as only ever connected there.

If you need food in Nassau airport, do not eat at the Wendy's and other American BS in the airport. Walk just outside and you will see a blue shack and a red shack serving food to all the employees of the airport. Eat at the blue one. Amazing island food (jerk chicken etc).

If you go from Columbus Point on the north side all the way to Gordon's on the southern tip I can imagine it getting close to 1:30-1:45 drive. That being said, any of the beaches you will not likely see other people. Maybe at Dean's and Gordon's you might see a couple other groups but very very isolated. It's not a popular tourist island really, so easy to get away. There is not much of anything up north besides Santa Maria, if that's what you want go for it. Mid island will give you local food spots and tons of beaches within 20 minute drive.
