Cheapest, was a Honda Civic with 130,000 miles for $1500. Drove it to 225,000 and never did anything to it. Maybe a new set of brakes at some point. Sold it for $1000.

Most expensive was a brand new Tundra in 2003. Limited package for $30,000. Sold it a 210,000 miles. Never had an issue outside of tires/brake changes.

Least expensive: $2100 for a 1967 Mustang in 1983. I put 7 or 8 times that into it over the next 10 years.

Most expensive: a 991.2 Turbo S. I eye the more exotic offerings each time I replace my daily but you just can't beat a 911 as a DD at least in a sporty car. I am pretty sure it will be replaced with a 992, I have become a P-Car driver forever.

Favorite car: E36 M3 lightweight, I hate I sold it. It was in Paul Walker's collection when he died. The entity I sold it to flipped it to him for a healthy profit about 2 weeks later.

Come to think of it I have had a string of cars I wish I had never sold, I have a habit of bonding intensely with almost every car I have ever owned.

Purchased my first vehicle for $800 with a $400 loan from my Dad. A 97 s10 with a softball sized rust hole in the driver side floorboard that I could see the road through. It has 190,000 on it. Sold it with 330k. Most expensive was a 2011 ranger, manual 5sp, 4x4. For 14k. And 65,000 miles.

Cheapest best deal for new truck.
New Datsun pickup 1984.
Dealer was phasing out Datsun and moving to Nissan. Got new in November of 1984.
Datsun 720 4x4 $5795 when the truck went new for $7k to $8k.

Could not pass up the deal and got a 4x4 with 4x4 vs 4x2. AM/FM cassette player, AC, and 5 speed.
Ugly truck, but extremely reliable.
Did not get a rear bumper had to buy one at the junkyard for $50.

Most expensive
Wives Range Rover.
I was not going to win this battle, when I just bought $70k fiberglass boat.

Cheapest was a new Mazda 3, I think about $15K back in the day.

Most expensive was a used 2013 4Runner with under 10k miles, it was about $30k, also back in the day a bit now. It still has less than 60k miles and might be worth about the same.

ETA: Only counting vehicles I personally bought, not ones bought for me way way back.

Cheapest was my first car that wasn’t a hand me down. A 7 year old BMW 320i for $4500. Family wise, I remember my Dad buying a Pinto Station wagon from a guy in the office next to his for $200. That was about 1979 probably. Sold it for about $750 after driving it for a few weeks. Was a fun 4 speed stick shift.

Cheapest—Brand new Toyota Tercel in 1990…it was $9100
Prior to meeting my wife, I had an Infiniti G35 that was 38k…loved that car…still regret getting rid of it but it had 185,000 miles and needed $4500 in repairs…that car had major HOrse power…makes me sad.
Drive some absolute crap cars my dad bought for me and my siblings…Chevy Monza, oilfield Ford pickup with 65,000 of the hardest miles ever (auction Dad got it for $1809)…Ford Taurus with 80k miles on it, thing was falling apart, passenger seat in the front leaked every time it rained…all those cars were crap.

1st car- 1985 Honda civic wagon in 2001 with a 5 spd, fun to drive $1500
2014 Chevy traverse with 30k miles in 2014 for $25k
Next one will most likely be most expensive with these ridiculous prices

you are right c5

When I was first driving it on the i95 interstate MD the Maryland State Troupers on duty would swoop down beside me just to see the car

Another story... I had to get a last minute oil change for a long trip and I didn't have time to take it into the dealership so i took it to a nice garage and had to bring my own synthetic oil(at that time synthetic oil was in short supply)
I went back to pick up the car and the garage called every mechanic they knew, to come see the car --- there were like 16 gearheads there.
Aficionados

The reason they wanted to look --- the new configuration of the transmission and engine.
They were impressed

Most expensive: 2016 BMW 750i in early 2021, $38,600

and 14 other cars inbetween those two.

My father gave me some wise but wasteful advice growing up...

Always buy new vehicles.

We fought second hand broke down cars my entire childhood.

Since 22, I've bought 6 new vehicles. Never bought a used one. Always had them serviced at the dealerships. Never had any major issues.

Always had a car note though. So one problem solved created another.

Most expensive was a loaded out Subaru Ascent: $50K. I will not spend over $50K on a new vehicle. Personal rule.

Cheapest was a '77 Pinto I bought new for $3,800. I was beginning my Sr year of high school and my note was $84 per month for 3 years.

Most expensive is my current GMC Sierra. Because of the car and chip shortage last fall / winter, I paid sticker at $58,000, but I got one hell of a trade-in on my '18 Chevy Silverado with relatively low mileage.
