Just because it's a type of experience you never heard of before today doesn't mean it's without value. It's a curated experience that does tend to lead to pretty radical results.
I'm sure all the plant baws around here REALLY have their lives in such perfect order to be looking down their noses on highly successful people seeking betterment.

He should try a retreat at a monastery. I see nothing wrong with what he's doing, though - other than its not my spirituality or my faith.
