He can’t.
He has convinced himself of this.

SERIOUS QUESTION I hope one of you knows the right answer. By the way, thank all of you degenerates for your help this morning. I've read it all and have learned a great deal, seriously.

My question is, if I was to approach him civilly about his problem and the possibility of getting help, is that better done when he's in his week that he's run out of Adderall and feeling like crap or during a week right after he gets it refilled and is thinking more clearly? I honestly have no idea on that and don't want to screw that up. Thanks again!!!!

feel it out, you know your buddy better than us... but your "in" to the conversation should be right after he complains about how tired he is, or how he feels like shite/can't focus, etc... that's when you hit him with the "do you think you may be too dependent on them" question, then hit him with facts, and tell him how common this shite is... he's not alone, and would have your support through it all...

It won't do anything. Unless he is the one who realizes he has a problem and needs help, you'll be wasting your oxygen. If this sounds cruel, then sorry. I'm being realistic, not trying to pump you up with sunshine and lollipops.

I knew someone who was prescribed 60mg a day and she took so much of it that she had to go buy more from a friend halfway through the month. She had a serious problem and got extremely agitated when someone tried mentioning it to her. Eventually, we all said frick it and realized she has no interest in getting help or even acknowledging a problem.

He quite often takes 2 at a time for his first dose of the morning and then ends up taking 1 at a time 2 or 3 more times that day. He's averaging 4 or 5 a day which is causing him to run out a week to week and a half early each month. During that time he's irritable, extremely dragging arse, just very unpleasant to be around.

This will eventually (if it hasn’t already) morph into needing to take a pill to wake up, take a pill to go to sleep, take a pill to eat, take a pill to relax, etc….

It’s a slippery slope that I’ve seen many friends go down, and sadly, I haven’t seen any of them snap out of it until something bad happens or until everything they love in life is threatened to be taken away from them

Your friend needs help

Gaucho. I think you should create a new account and start all over. Your posts lately try way too hard. You’ve lost your mojo

Meth is the natural path forward.

They're little different than meth users, just more socially acceptable.

Did his script start at 30x3 ten years ago or did it build up? Any doc writing that to start should probably lose their license. While being diagnosed at around 40 isn’t unheard of, if he truly needed 30x3, people would have thought the previous 40 hears that he was partially retarded. Anyone truly needing 30x3 is not going to be a normal functioning person without it. That is extreme dosing.

The first thing I’d recommend to him would be to switch to XRs. Take an XR first thing in the morning. He can get a supplement script of 10/20 IRs to take one after lunch if he really needs it. But that’s if he’s either a)extremely ADD or b)ADD with a career that typically requires long days of work (12+hrs).

The energy drinks alone is a red flag. 30x3 is going to affect your sleep. He’s not sleeping well so he’s pounding energy drinks and double dosing to make up for it. It’s a never ending cycle that will kill him eventually. If he can even cut back to 30x2, taking that last one before 3pm, he would probably sleep so much better and thus feel so much better. He wouldn’t need to pop pills to get out of bed and chug monsters to get thru the day.

His best bet would be take several days or a week off of work and don’t take any Adderall. Best to not to have any required appointments, responsibilities, etc. Just hang around the house, sleep, do fun shite, etc. If he really does need the meds, start back with a normal routine of XRs like I mentioned before with plenty of sleep.

His doctor is hos drug dealer.

Theres zero reason for a 40 year old man (or really anyone for that matter) to be prescribed that much amphetamine every day.

And I failed to mention he also lives on Red Bull and Monster. Always has one in hand. From what I've read Adderall causes dry mouth. He has a yeti mug with him at all times pretty much and 90% of the time it's energy drinks. At least he does drink the sugar free versions of them.

Holy shite! The dude loves speed. Can’t blame him, I do too. Unfortunately, he’s not going to stop unless he wants to stop.

My husband was prescribed Aderall since he was 15. Last year (at 40), his BP was out of control. Drs tried several meds, finally told him he had to get off it. Took him a couple of months to adjust, but he's fine now. So yes, if your friends "wants" to get off of it, I think he can.
