Noticed my vision had gotten worse recently so I had an eye exam. The OD said no sign of glaucoma or retinal disease, but I have cataracts, probably genetic, not age related. Glasses won't improve my vision and I need surgery, wants to refer me to an eye surgeon. Does this sound plausible? Should I get a second opinion?

How old are you? Did the OD say they were congenital cataracts? Typically congenital cataracts don't progress. Are you having trouble seeing at distance or at near or both?

Late fifties

He said they weren't age related

More trouble seeing at distance than up close. Right eye worse than left.
