He looks completely disinterested this go around. His lack of passion displayed in 2014 and 2010 is completely absent. Maybe he's more vested in his podcast he's running right now. He could just be tired. That's fine, it's hard to keep up. But maybe he shouldn't be our lead analyst.

Lalas has seemed off this World Cup because he hates Dempsey. Maybe not as a person but as an analyst. Dempsey hasn't agreed with Lalas one time and is always trying to one up or correct Lalas. It's turned Lalas into a grump.

The biggest problem with this World Cup is that, by happening in a country with no pageantry during the busiest part of the sports calendar, during the holiday season, it became just another thing that was also happening

Plus a billion

I don't overwhelmingly have a problem with Fox coverage in general, but I doubt ESPN could have saved the problem with this location and time of year

I can't stand Stew Holden. I don't like the lead announcers either. The only one that doesn't annoy me is Cobi Jones.

I guess my problem is that I'm used to English announcers on TV and radio. Maybe those guys on Fox are ok. I just don't care for them. It's like nails on a chalkboard for me. I think it's worse when I have to listen on Sirius XM, while working, and rely on them to paint a picture of the match for me.

Darke is English. He was the #1 USMNT guy for ESPN. "Goal, goal, USA. Certainly through. Ooooh, it's incredible."

Hey, at least they didn’t inflict Fernando Fiore upon us this time. I’m sure he’s great at his role, but his role is completely unsuitable for American audiences.

I love Clint Dempsey, but he isn’t good at articulating his thoughts. And Donovan is fine pre-match and post-match, but way too monotone for his match commentary. He and Ian Darke have awkward chemistry.

I wish Mark Followill was commentating this World Cup, but he’s probably busy with Mavericks games.

I’ve actually really liked Donovan. I find him genuinely insightful without being overbearing about it (e.g., at half of US game, suggested that the US rotate central midfielders out wide to open up space for Pulisic/Weah vs. Clint saying that the US needs to be brave). He’s always been kind of a fricking weirdo as far as athletes go, so maybe that has caused me to temper my expectations

I’ve been pleasantly surprised by their coverage, but I may just not have the energy to get worked up about it

I don’t mind Donovan at all. He brings insights as both a player and a coach. People don’t like his milquetoast personality but the content he provides is at least decent.

Idk why though I feel like that is natural Clint Dempsey. I have no basis for this theory. Other than the “You don’t know where I’m from” story.

Clint is very articulate in street talk, not so much when trying to sound proper on tv. He and my cousin were in the same grade in nac and I played with his brother, so I know him somewhat. He mostly hung out with black kids, so being around white lib coastals like Donovan is unnatural. I was hoping he’d do better, but I think his nerves get the best of him.

Donovan on the other hand just seems like a woke, annoying midget

You can tell Dempsey is just memorizing the production notes that are handed to him before each show. The whole point of those is to build conversation topics from it, but Dempsey just says them verbatim on-air.

He has said "This US team only has one player with prior World Cup experience" at least 4,500,325 times the last week and a half.

It’s been awful. Several announcers had no idea the current circumstances during
Match 3 of each group. It was just pathetic.

Just because a person played soccer professionally (mens and womens) and was on the national team, does not make them a good announcer.

And they wonder why people in the US don’t get into the sport.

What a stupid thing to promote.

Especially when the whole world calls it football because the people that invented it called it that.

It just makes Americans look dumb to the rest of the world.

Fox is still being cheap with the WC

Just using one centralized desk for post match analysis after every match with the same pundits

Other networks having a desk in every stadium with the people who actually were there doing the pre game and watching it in person breaking down the match after

I fricking hate John Strong's constant chest pumping for MLS players. He's pretty decent but for fricks sake. Even the casual here doesn't care if the Ecuadorian mid fielder played for MLS 4 years ago, they want to know more about Caicedo and Estupanian and dudes who are actually worth a shite that play in the big leagues like England. It is part of the reason they are so slow to criticize a fricking donkey like Jesus Ferreira for literally being a useless waste of space on the field. He plays for MLS and feel that attacking his shite performance hurts the MLS or something. Fox would be the first douches crying if we went to an all 26 man roster of European based players which should literally be happening already.

Yea it is way over the top and detracts from the broadcast

They did the same shite with Copa America

Random dude passes the ball, through ball by the NYRB midfielder instead of just saying his name

I always lol at the attention to the stupid world rankings.

“Portugal is the 9th ranked team in the world.”

No one cares. It isn’t college football.

I’m surprised Derek Rae hasn’t gotten any love. He’s by far my favorite play by play guy in this tournament
