People bring party barges out there, Smugglers Cove, all the time. I can’t imagine a less seaworthy boat than one of those.

I've been beat to hell on the way back from Cat in my 19ft bay boat. I can't imagine taking a flat bottom boat or pontoon boat out there. It can get nasty quick.

I've been 10 miles south of Horn in my boat but it was glass that day. I've also had water come over the bow just south of Deer. That's a really scary feeling. Wind forecast is your friend.

I’ve been fishing for many years 25-30 miles out of Fourchon in my 20’ Hydrasport Ocean Skiff, only had one scary moment, and that was my own fault for not watching the weather coming up on us. And that was while at the close in Fourchon rigs mangrove fishing.

In my college days we took a 19’ bayboat 15-20 miles offshore. Loaded up a couple 5 gallon gas cans to be “safe”. That day we had no trouble. But now looking back it was very stupid.

Another time we we to the Mardi Gras at night. A storm popped up, It didn’t last long but I was scared we would die. At one point (durning the storm) I sent my mom a text that simply said “I love you”.

Like others said, yes you can but no you should not.

Had a ride back like that from Freemason in a 24' bay boat this spring. I was never worried about our safety, but it was miserable. Took FOREVER and was too wet the whole time to get my phone screen to work and get a text out.

I'd rather be in that than a flat bottom with some hefty baws sitting inches above the water line...

Get a transponder.

VHF radio.

SeaTow plan.

Don't be stupid.

If there are any hole in the hull where grommets and shite are replace them all. 10 miles out In a storm is a bad place to find out the 15 year old pass through hull fitting shite the bed.

I used to take my 24 out before I bought my Contender. Wear your life jacket. Never turn off your motor. Go on a FLAT day.
