This team is poorly coached and has a lot less talent than we thought

I think we caught lightening in a bottle the end of last year.

Willie Green has no idea how to coach defense. And that’s supposedly his strength coming in

Rotations are awful. Defense is perpetually lost.

But the worst part is basically every player we expected improvement from is worse (Herb, Jose, Hayes, etc). I won’t even get into Ingram looking horrible and McCollum thinking he’s Kobe out there and just chunking every game. Or the fact that Zion has zero interest in even considering playing defense.

It’s rough out there. And looks like it’s going to stay that way. Willie looks worse by the game….hope last year wasn’t a fluke but the evidence is starting to pile up

17 Turnovers to 8 and mostly by our big 3...plus CJ still shooting like arse and it brings an L

Rotation guys are fine, but it isn't a secret, defense and random other stuff from game to game has suppressed the team's results.

Yesterday the random fault was tons of turnovers by our big 3, but the reason it was such an advantage was because the Pels caused only 7 by the Blazers, so still defense rearing its head.

Clearly the team knows, BI already said it pretty bluntly, it's just a question if they will be able to do anything about it.

on what basis did the Pelisons decide there would be such specific improvements?
hope?

your zion issue is the biggest. others have brought it up. internet prognostication rates zion a bad defender.

i was wondering about pick 1.2 morant in the context of great offense meh defense. why? I saw him play his freshman year.
6th man. got in foul trouble. soph year starter. no more foul trouble. I think his coach said "just" be 20 10 Pg. we need you on the court.I see in close ends of games he gets a block or steal. I think he could be a good defender.
also related to zion, I saw n interview of bane and he said he's glad brooks has to chase the opposing best perimeter guy so he bane can have the energy to be a scorer. maybe zion doesn't feel fit enough to exert on defense.
id like to see him be interviewed about defense.
see how he sees it.

Im not gonna lie to yall. After one of these losses i get emotional about it too and I say stuff like this out loud. Then I calm down.

The defense will come with time. You see flashes when the guys are concentrating.

Rotations will work themselves out. Its a dozen games in.

Herb is going into year 2. Yeah Hayes sucks. But Jose and Herb are fine. Agree CJ needs to chill and get these double digit assist nights.

Its fine. Its early. There are a lot of good teams struggling early to get their footing this year. Pels are one. The main thing is for you to pull your skirt down. So dramatic worse than my wife.

I forget who really brought it to my attention, but every up and coming team gets that one run where no one was expecting them and they get to exist in this perpetual high of recognizing they are better than they thought and everyone else not yet respecting it. So that team has a chance to over perform and win a lot of games that maybe they shouldn’t always.

Dallas and Atlanta had it couple years ago, Cleveland had it early last season, the Pels had it later last season. Feels like the Jazz have it right now.

But once teams know they know, and the word was out on the Pels so no longer are you catching teams off guard. I think this young team is having to adjust to that. That we aren’t the underdogs and teams have game plans and us pencilled on the schedule as a team you have to get up for.

I’m not ready to claim Willie is a poor coach. I do question some of the rotation minutes and the utilization of Zion, but he’s young too. If we are 40 games in and it still looks way harder than it should given our talent to score, and we can’t put it together defensively, guys that shouldn’t are still getting major minutes. I’ll panic, but I think this is the natural process of a good team coming up against a good league that finally respects us.
