My Nephew borrowed the Cobra for his tournament and refuses to give it back lol.
I never had kids so I am a pushover with him. He got out of Grad school making 6 figures, but he still a kid to me...

.. yeah I've been going through a little bit of it here myself.. been buying a club here and there trading it in getting something else.. I don't think I'm gaining any advantages by any means, but like you said it's a hobby.. But to my point from earlier, there's just not gonna be a huge advantage if you're currently gaming a driver from the last 10yrs with one released today .
Hell I'm using and 15 yr old borrowed Callaway and I'm still hitting it nearly as far as my newer driver that I had before I gave it to my daughter..

I agree.
A guy in our group is hitting a Nakashima driver with a Fuji Rombax shaft.
It's probably 10 years old and he still busts it. He has plenty of money but he refuses to try anything new.

We sold that money pit lakehouse.
But I can heat up the pool and fine bourbon is no issue at all.

Anybody that has a new Titleist driver and doesn't like it, I've got a sim 2 with upgraded shaft I'd trade for it.

My G400 is amazing. I upgraded from a TaylorMade R7, so admittedly a huge upgrade, but I agree. I can hit it 300 and I can hit it 100 ?? driver isn’t the issue for me! It’s my over the top swing that kicks my butt more times than not
