You can't put a salary cap because they all play in different leagues in different countries

I’m sure you could have a salary cap, if it’s a condition of playing in the competition. There’s nothing stopping a team from going over it, they just wouldn’t be permitted to play in the competition. It can go across different countries if the clubs all agree that they will pay in the same currency.

The problem with such a salary cap is that it will still be too high for the mid level clubs in each league to compete, and top clubs won’t agree to a salary cap that will meaningfully limit theirselves

Isn't a cap also against EU labor laws?

Financial FairPlay is the deal, and it was in place in the English set-up before Brexit.

Right but that isn't really a hard cap that's the same for every team.

I was under the impression there was some sort of labor law in the EU itself (not UEFA) basically banning wage caps.

The last significant court ruling was the Bosman rule, giving power to players. A salary cap is never happening and thank god for that.

I’m bored by the idea of a super league, but I am somewhat impressed that Florentino seemingly managed to get away scot free with this stunt and is now doubling down on this shite

Certainly respect it more than the, “I’m so sorry. I didn’t know this would piss people off” line from a bunch of the other involved parties
