ND fans, and probably players, were likely tired of Kelly. When a coach stays somewhere too long and has little to show for it, the people involved start to want something new. Kelly's tenure at ND is far from Saban's at Alabama. Notre Dame still sees itself as being in the same conversation as the Bamas and Ohio St.'s of the college football world and consistently coming up short wears thin after a while. I'd compare his tenure to that of Sean Payton's in New Orleans.

No 18-19 year old wants an a-hole for a boss while they’re going to school and playing. They’re going to hold them accountable.

“Players coaches” rarely have long term sustained success.

We needed a guy that was all business and we got it.

I never said they "wanted" an a-hole for a boss but I think that when things are going well people tend to deal with it better. Also, that was 20 years ago and my personal feeling is that most kids today don't have thick enough skin to play for guys like Saban/Kelly which is probably one reason the portal is so popular.

The kids/athletes that attend ND are by far different that the kids/athletes that attend LSU...ND has a crutch in itself to accept kids that are at a high standard vs other schools...this mindset vs the type of mindset you have at LSU for instances is not the same

so the coaching done at ND could not resonate there vs some other schools. i think he will get a better response at LSU

More success than 98% of the country.

NCG appearance and multiple trips to the CFP. But he was holding them back and nobody likes him.

Okay.

The Kelly butt lickers on this board don't want to hear it but I appreciate you providing some objective info on here. The sunshine pumping gets nauseating.

Guess what? Win a NC and any "disdain" for the coach will go away. Win multiple NC's, they will do whatever it takes to be at LSU. Kelly was never going to win the NC at Notre Dame.
