Definitely seems to have made some type of adjustment at the plate by looking at how his average and OBP went up big time. The K/BB improved drastically in the last 3 weeks also.

I think he will be a project getting some playing time this season in some midweeks and early on and hopefully he can make a big jump and be really good for us going into 2025 season.

BYU, Salt Lake Community College, and they played a week in California. I don't know the field they played at in Cali.

We have so many OFs on the roster for next season.

On a side note, the back drop at BYU is incredible

It really is. BYU and Utah Valley are a couple places I wouldn't mind going watch some games. Pepperdine and Point Loma Nazarene are on the list as well.

I think we have a lot of player competition coming into fall. MIF will be a pretty big competition between Guidry, braswell, Nippolt, Milam, and anyone else jay thinks can see time there (Bingham). Braswell probably sticks at short with Guidry or Milam at 2nd IMO. IMO the OF just got alot tougher for Frey to find a spot. I think you will see some combination of Kling, Pearson, and Bingham (with Larson seeing PT along with Frey). As long as Pearson can climb out of the Sophmore slump he had at the beginning of the year (it seems he did) then him and Kling are already planted at Left and Center respectively.

Interesting Note: Larson could also see time at 1st as well.

For those that may be able to watch, Micah Bucknam is scheduled to get the start for Y-D today at 10am central. Not sure what the broadcast options are because the game is being played in a minor league park rather than one of the home fields on the Cape.

They're playing at Dunkin Donuts Park, the home of the Hartford Yard Goats.

Regardless of how the fields are playing over there, it still seems like Mitchell had a great summer.

Comparing his stats to the all the other players in that league, this is how he currently stacks up:

OPS - 1.135 (3rd)
SLG - 0.685 (2nd)
Hits - 31 (2nd)
2B - 10 (1st)
HR - 6 (3rd)
RBI - 25 (3rd)
SB - 9 (2nd)

What they do with Guidry is one of the most interesting things to me. If they split him at SS/P he won't be as good as either position alone IMO.

Struggled at the plate during pre-season practices last year, but was pretty solid defensively.

I think Braswell is ahead of him at SS as of now.

Guidry and Braswell will get the first looks at SS in the fall I would think. They got Guidry on campus and passing up on 2 mil by giving him an opportunity to be a 2 way guy. They won't take that opportunity from him after 1 season. If he can put on some weight it will help him tremendously in recovery form being a 2 way guy.

Is it possible that we add another MIF? Right now we are pursuing Holman and Montgomery. Is there a plan B if we miss on one or both?

I don't know if Jay feels we have two more roster spots to play with or those two are just too good not to recruit?

So if we miss on Montgomery or Holman, do we go after a middle infielder, pitcher or just call it a day and don't add anyone?

I've seen Pepperdine's field once when I was in Malibu. TBH I don't know how you go to college there and get any work done

I think if they were worried about going after another infielder they would have went after Luke Hill a little harder. That kind of seemed to me like they are fine with the middle infield. I think it is Holman/Montgomery. No matter what happens with those 2 I believe we ride it out with what we have after.

I mentioned Pearson playing 2nd base about 20 pages ago and got nothing but downvotes. Now someone mentions it and gets nothing but upvotes. Not that I care about the stupid votes, its just interesting how the same group of people can have such a different reaction to the same statement.

I still think Pearson having the flexibility to play LF or 2B will be best for him and the team.

I mean we just passed on a proven MIF from Baton Rouge that wanted to come here so I feel as though Jay likes what he has.

Snaaking Pearson into the infield would give us another LHH option in the outfield.

Looking at left handed options wer have
Neal at Catcher
Pearson
Nippolt
Ruddell

and then the freshmen
Larson
Milam is a Switch Hitter
Derrick Mitchell is a switch hitter
Cooley and Dale are lefties.

Pearson seems like he’s in. Neal will catch a lot of games. (travinski and jones will probably be 1b and DH)

but if you’re trying to get 1-2
more left handed bats into the lineup you’ve got 1 outfield spot and 1 infield spot.

My guess would be Paul and Ruddell, also both lefties, would be ahead of them on the depth chart.

From an outfield standpoint it looks like this:

RHH - Bingham, Kling, Frey

LHH - Pearson, Ruddell, Paul, Larson, Cooley, Dale

SH - Mitchell

Of those, I would say only Frey and Pearson are truly corner guys only. But I think Dale and Cooley are more in the program guy mold and may take the Zeb Ruddell route and may not factor into next year's plans.

yeah I think Bingham and Kling likely have a spot out there.

LF and 2B will be a real toss up if we’re trying to squeeze in LHH
