LSU has Omar Serna out of Texas committed at C for the 2025 class. He’s the #1 catcher and 13th overall for 2025 per PG . They have the # 1 C in the country committed for 23,24 and 25 class. If they miss on all three there’s always the transfer porter. With the transfer portal not sure if you need back up plans like in the past . Presley is a very good catcher . I think he’s going to have a chance to be drafted out of HS

I don't think they'd lie. Just no way to really know how they'll feel once they start extending volume and pushing intensity. Again, fingers crossed for all of the guys.

ETA: I'm big time in favor of shutting Skenes down. He's pitched as much or more than anyone else in the last 9 months or so, and really doesn't have anything glaring to work on (I know, everyone can improve on something, but you have to protect guys sometimes.) I'd like to see Skenes swing some, though. Is he shut down altogether or just pitching?

I think we'll have some catchers to look at in-state. But, yes, you always have to look at the portal if it comes to it for such a position that requires so much maturity and leadership.

Don't forget, Neal's here for a bit...plus we have Frey and Jones. If I'm not mistaken, Milazzo and Travinski could even come back next year.

Catcher should be fine, even if the draft snips us there. Neal coming to campus gives us a few years of breathing room.

Myles Ledoux’s close relative works for me. He has 2 brothers that also play baseball. The youngest supposedly was looked at by Tennessee.
She and her husband are huge LSU fans.

Out of respect for the family I’d highly recommend rewording that out of privacy. Glad to hear they like lsu though

Oh, I know. I know the family very well. Myles’ grandmother was my basketball “mom” in high school.

That’s the question no one seems to be sure on.

I’m good with them shutting down his pitching if Wes feels he’s reached his max load they wanted for him. But he didn’t hit this past weekend at all, which I don’t completely understand why.

Hunt Palmer said on another site that he was a bit confused by that too; but would try to ask around and see. I’ll be at the first game of P&G WS tomorrow; so we’ll see if he hits.

I thought I read somewhere that Skenes getting shut down had to do with back tightness. If that is the case then it makes sense why he isn't hitting either.

Possibly and that would make sense.

I noticed last weekend he wasn't playing and asked around, but no one knew anything. Then I listed to Kendall Rogers on Hunt and Hill this past Wednesday and he said he was told (most likely by the coaches) that they shut him down b/c he had reached his max pitch limit/load they wanted for the fall due to the fact of how many innings he threw last season and then pitched for Team USA all summer.

D1Baseball came out with their fall report for LSU today. To say Kendall is high on LSU is an understatement.

I wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being a pitcher only, with some occasional stints at DH and PH. I wish more for him, and I think he has value for us in the lineup as a hitter, but I really want him to be a wipeout starting pitcher. We have alot of other guys that can hit. And, his money will be made in being a wipeout pitcher. Giving us offense will be trendy, but that's not what MLB teams are looking at for him. They want to see if he can wipe out SEC lineups on the mound.

Why do you think that? Until he was shutdown this past weekend, he was hitting every scrimmage that he didn’t pitch in and looked pretty good doing it.

I see no reason why he can’t do both. I mean the guy has managed to pitch, catch, and hit the past 2 years. Now he’s just having to pitch once per week and hit 2-3 games per week. Plus he and Jay both in interviews have been pretty adamant that he was going to focus on doing both.

I’d understand not using him as a DH if there was just a clear cut better option; but I don’t think there is at this point. Jones has similar power, but he’s a freshman and will likely have a lot of swing and miss especially once SEC pitchers figure him out. Jobert also with power, but has not proven to be consistent enough to this point. Beloso has shown improvement and could maybe compete with PS for avg; but doesn’t have near the physical power that PS has.

So like, not a pitcher only.

They had to shut him down, due in part to back pain.

I just don't know if they'll risk him hitting much on top of his pitching workload. You risk losing a key arm, maybe the key arm. The lineup will have plenty of similar options without him. You don't have similar options on the mound, unless you're real certain on 4-5 guys as a starter...and I don't see that yet.

I'd much rather him stay healthy as a pitcher, if that means only hitting him sparingly.

I know he did it all at Air Force, but this isn't Air Force in the sense that you can sacrifice his bat here and in the sense that he'll be going toe to to with SEC arms every week with a deep post season on the line.

Honestly, I hope I'm wrong. I hope he pitches and hits, and stays healthy.

I thought I heard talk of him at DH, 1B, and RF when he wasn't pitching. I just wouldn't be surprised if it was the exception and not the norm to see him hit at all. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

ETA: I was one that thought Jay would figure out a way to put him behind the plate if it helped the team. With the way he's pitched, how well the catcher position seems to be covered, and how many bats we have to use, I'm leaning in the totally opposite direction now. Jay has said publicly that pitching was a priority, so I could see him protecting Skenes as a pitcher at all costs.
