Looks like PG has done a rankings update since I posted this 2023 list back in August. New ranking to the right of original ranking I posted back then.:

#9 -> #6 C Blake Mitchell - TX
#28 -> #17 LHP Cameron Johnson - MD
#86 -> #102 3B Trenton Lape - LA
#88 -> #101 LHP Kade Anderson - LA
#90 -> #82 OF Ashton Larson - KS
#106 -> #112 SS Steven Milam - NM
#121 -> #126 RHP/SS MJ Seo - TX
#132 -> #137 OF Derrick Mitchell - TX
#163 -> #119 LHP Jake Brown - LA
#166 -> #178 SS Austen Roellig - CA
#218 -> #228 LHP Kaiden Wilson - MO
#363 -> #380 OF Dallas Dale II - FL
#389 -> #410 SS Ryan Kucherak - AZ
#422 -> #453 SS Dylan Thompson - LA
#501-1000 -> #510-1000 OF Griffin Cooley - LA

Removed Jaxson Burch, J.C. Vanek and Sebastian Gonzalez from our commit list.

Seems like everyone dropped except the top 2 commits who probably wont make it here anyways, Ashton Larson with a small bump up and Jake Brown with a big bump up.

It's a very exciting infield class, and I'm not sure we're done in that regard.

This class also compliments the 2022 class in that regard. The way our HS classes are shaping up makes me think we won't be going quite as heavy in the portal every year, but maybe picking our spots a little bit.

I tend to agree but disagree. Obviously the more HS talent you bring in the less you need the portal. I also think it works both ways. The more portal talent you bring in the less HS talent you need. I think it boils down to picking our spots with both. I believe it will be more about big game hunting in the portal and HS. The rich will get richer.

I also believe NIL is more effective when you are trying to bring in a talented college player that is not draft eligible and you are not competing with MLB. If anything, I believe the resources teams will put into the portal will only increase.

I actually think we hit a goldmine with Jay Johnson. He is the right coach at the right time. It's the perfect storm with NIL, Portal and a coach that works his arse off recruiting. I expect we will be making a lot of visits to Omaha.

I think Jordan brought some dudes into Durham last year, too. His track record is pretty solid. He should have a field day here, and get even better development of what he brings in.

What was the story here? I seem to recall hearing Eddie say in an interview last year that he was letting his son make his own decision and not influencing him. However, kind of hard not to notice the Bianco connection there.

Did LSU just not recruit him hard? Was it a previous staff thing and Jay was just too late to the party to get him to change or never even really tried?

Not complaining at all about this or anything. Just curious the backstory, if there even is one.

Also 5 in the top 20 and 6 in the top 33 just to go a little further. Definitely an amazing job to get these guys here. Can't wait for some fall baseball to go along with a little football.

Nic Bronzini is at 100 so that is 7 in the top 100. I also believe that Griffin Herring should be in the top 100 but he is down around 135-140. Aiden Moffett is also around that 135-145 mark if I remember correctly.

Mic Paul is really good out of the Oregon area and I agree completely that Griffin Herring should be in the top 100 rankings.

The weirdness of COVID is still impacting rosters, in addition to the free transfer rule. I know not every school is like this but looking at in state rosters McNeese and UNO each have like 2 freshmen on the roster. UNO has always been pretty JUCO heavy under Dean, but only 2 freshmen is pretty extreme.

I wonder if some smaller conference schools are going to eschew HS recruiting so they're not spending their time developing guys to see them transfer out to P5 schools and instead go almost completely toward JUCOs and the portal. We've only got I think one more of season (after this one) of COVID year guys.

I don't think this is talked about enough, it's easy to argue that a mid-major farm system for national powers like LSU isn't healthy for the sport as a whole. I kinda like the occasional rise of a Fresno State or Coastal Carolina, and if that element goes away entirely I think something positive is getting lost
