In the immortal words of Fat Bastard: I can't stop eating. I eat because I'm unhappy, and I'm unhappy because I eat. It's a vicious cycle.

You nailed it. Overeating is an addiction just like tobacco or drugs and alcohol, only the difference is you can quit these other addictions and thrive perfectly well. You have to eat food to survive. Most alcoholics can't have one or two drinks and stop, most tobacco addicts can't smoke 3 or 4 cigarettes and be done for the day. With a food addiction you are constantly battling the temptation. For some people it is just a bad habit that can be altered but for many others because food is everywhere and so easily attainable particularly fast food it will always be a struggle. If you have never battled depression or an addiction or both you wouldn't have a clue.
