Can’t wait for red god

SPOILERS

Really liked Diomedes in this book

Still worried Sevro is gonna have a switched flipped at some point

Lysander is a piece of shite, but thought his character arc has been really good through these three books

Darrow getting his mojo back was good to see as well

Victra killing Ajax was not on my bingo card going into the novel

This book was easily my favorite of books 4-6. I put it up there with 2 as my favorite along with the OG Red Rising book 1.

Pierce Brown's growth of a writer throughout the series is noteworthy. He is significantly better now than he was when it started.

MAJOR SPOILERS

Loved Lyria in this book. Also loved that the bug was removed from her brain. Did we really need a superhuman, robocop Lyria running around? Lyria in Light Bringer is perfect. She pretty much took the place of wise cracking Ephraim but it didnt feel out of place. Cassius taking her under his wing was great as their chemistry was fantastic.

Question: Was it mentioned why the bug wasnt offered to Darrow, Sevro, Cassius when they arrived? Did it have to be repaired while in Lyria's head or is basically unrepairable once removed? Darrow had already landed before Lyria chose to destroy it. It seemed odd that Darrow shows up looking for weapons while Lyria is still there and the weapons they offered her werent offered to him. I likely missed the explanation of not offering those weapons at some point. But they offered to send her back to Mars with the bug in her head (she'd lose memories if kept in) AND with multiple of those metal orb things that found her at the beginning of the book. But they dont mention any of that to Darrow unless I missed it.

The two things I hated the most in book 5, the Minds Eye and the clone, were non existent in this book and I think we are better off for it. Both felt cheap to me. I know book 7 has to address them though...

Lysander killing Cassius was predictable, imo. But it needed to happen for his character arc which was done very well. He needs to be a little shite that we all hate.

Diomedes was too honorable to be on team Lysander. As soon as he was launched out in the escape pod while Darrow and crew were coming to Jupiter, I knew they would find him and that would likely begin Dio's turn to Team Darrow. Although I cringed when Sevro tortured Dio,

Book 7 - Minotaur vs Darrow duel round 2. Cant wait.

Victra

Do not fear for me. Instead, pity them.

I went to a book signing last week and Pierce said that was his favorite line of LB.

Absolutely. Baddies getting killed left and right in this one. I was fully expecting Atlas to make it to the last book, he was my favorite villain in the series until a lucky Lysander cheapshot took him out.

- Having Volsung Fa turn out to be basically just a paid actor was strange but humorous. And the fight between him and Darrow was incredible... the parallels to Game of Thrones (Mountain vs. Viper) had me on edge the whole fight.

- Diomedes is awesome, and I hope we finally see him fight in the last book.

- Hated to see Cassius go, especially THAT way, but we were bound to lose someone from the big three (Darrow, Cassius, Sevro) and he was the least painful one to lose.

- How strange to see some of the subplots wrapped up so abruptly, like Lyria's Figment ability, or Quicksilver's Oculus project. I highly doubt we see Quicksilver in the last book.

Overall I thought Lightbringer was good, better than Iron Gold but not as good as Dark Age. Looking forward to the finale... Lysander has cemented himself as the true villain, and I hope he meets a satisfying end, though I don't think Darrow survives either.
