Golf - Woodlands Resort

Getting a long weekend in with the family soon. We will be staying on the Hilton Resort and it says they have 2 courses. I’ve played around the Houston area, but never there. How are the courses? Are they worth the green fees? Any input on restaurants within the area also greatly appreciated.

Well, the Woodlands is not Houston. It’s about an hour away. Houston is a city. Places on the outskirts are not Houston. Please stop referring to something 50 miles away as something else.
I will say, if you’re staying in the Woodlands, most decent courses are private and they’re typically in great shape. Public courses in that area are not very good.
Within 40 miles of the Woodlands for public courses are Atascocita, Cypresswood, and the cypress courses (Houston National, cypress Lakes, Blackhorse). None of these are in Houston.

Wife and I did the same a little over a month ago. Really enjoyed the courses, panther trail was my favorite. Halfway houses on each, well kept, good practice area.
Haven’t played anywhere else in the woodlands, but thought it was a really good experience.
Recommend the stay and play package if you and the wife play, if she doesn’t, just buy the round for yourself. Stay and play basically works out to a bogo if both of you are playing.
ETA, oak trail was good too, both are at the woodlands resort

The back 9 of the west course is nicer than the front but it’s a fun track.
The north has had some issues with the greens but it’s been better.

Used to be a member out there and played the Oaks (can’t remember if it’s North or West now, I think West) about a month ago. It was in phenomenal shape. Panther looks to be in a good shape too but I heard they got a fungus on a couple of the greens a while ago. Not sure if that’s been cleared up. Both are really fun courses

Worked at both years ago. All I’ve got is that after the ClubCorp merger, when the hotel was built, they made a bunch of managers from the Southeast convene and do a convention.
It was an absolute shitshow of drunkenness.
I enjoyed every minute of it.

Try Woodforest at Fish Creek short drive from the Woodlands, very good course and you will be very happy.
Woodlands is a great place to stay, just pick most any place to eat and not that far from I10 just avoid rush traffic hours

Goode company has a Mexican place and a new seafood place that are both very good and kid friendly, the creekside area has a lot of kid friendly options otherwise another one that’s easy for lunch is republic grill, it’s kind of like Sammie’s if you’re from BR.
The waterway, Hughes landing and market street areas and most of the “downtown” of the woodlands is pretty corporate and chain restaurants, some decent options but nothing that will be great. We’ve taken our young kids to Hearsay before and they did fine, it’s the best food option in that area that is kid friendly.

The Woodlands resort course is solid, not amazing, usually in good shape with some really fun holes. Panther trail, as someone mentioned earlier, is also a good track. Palmer course, which I think you can get on, is great but really hard.
If you can somehow get onto either Carlton Woods course do it. More expensive but it’s the best golf in north Houston and some of the best in all of greater Houston.
Don’t get food at the resort, it’s crazy expensive and not that good. Fieldings is a great burger place local to the Woodlands and pretty close. Gramaldi’s pizza is good and easy. There is a sports bar not far called Ronny G’s that’s good too. Also there is a Beck’s Prime close by.
