May I suggest you inquire at your local public library? I know that writers' groups often meet at libraries in my area, and the librarians are familiar with that.

Depending on your social and political inclinations, it may be easier or harder to find the right group. My area is ultra liberal and, thus, it would be difficult for me to find my peer group.

But it's certainly worth a try!
