I'm beginning to think he did ask her for a divorce up front. She refused, expecting him to come back eventually, and waited for over a year. He probably blocked her after a barrage of calls and texts begging him to come home.
Her filing for divorce and "claiming [her] power back" seems like another way of saying "you can't divorce me because I'm divorcing you".
Her version makes her sound stronger and less pathetic.

My ex-wife used to do that daily when we were together. She’d especially hate it when I responded with TL;DR.

What “evidence”? That his jilted ex-wife came up with a sob story in the New York post that painted her as some poor wittle me and him as…just done with it?

Exactly. I’m the a-hole for not immediately and wholeheartedly believing her story with zero evidence.

I’ve been on the receiving end of being accused of something I would never do in a million years, by someone I didn’t know, for reasons I have to clue as to why. Let me tell you, it doesn’t feel great to be told “there’s no evidence and no history of such behavior but we are letting you go because someone said something.”
Yeah, I’m not going to hang a man without some decent evidence.

Except he didn’t ghost her. He sent her a message (which she didn’t post, because it probably explained his actions) and then blocked her because all she would do is draw him in with incessant bullshite, escalating into fighting and screaming and drama and nonsense he didn’t need because he was done.
Come on, some of us have dealt with these before.
You tell them you are done, and then they play every angle until they find a weak point, like probing dragon skin.
They’ll insult you, they’ll rage at you, then they’ll be sweet at you, be sexy, apologize, promise this and that…the whole gamut until they find some bait you take and they’ll reel you back in to their crazy.
