That’s by design. The blowout panels are located atop the ammunition storage rack. Due to the way the rear of the turret is designed, any ammunition detonation will be directed above and away from the crew compartment, thus allowing the crew to survive and the tank still be operable, at least to the point of being able to be driven back to safety. This is in contrast to Russian designs where an ammunition detonation results in the entire crew being incinerated and the turret being sent into orbit.
