Two Wounded in ‘Massive’ Russian Attack on Electrical Grid, Kyiv Intercepts 21 of 34 Missiles

Two people were wounded after Russia launched a “massive attack” on energy infrastructure in Ukraine overnight from Friday to Saturday, Kyiv’s armed forces and local authorities said.

Ukraine’s Energy Minister, German Galushchenko, said the “massive” Friday-to-Saturday overnight strikes hit four power plants in three regions causing “severe damage” that will affect the electrical grid around the country, according to AFP reporting.

Russian forces launched a combined missile attack on Ukraine on the night of April 26-27, with Ukraine’s air defense forces intercepting 21 out of 34 targets.

Ukrainian Air Force Commander Mykola Oleshchuk announced this on the Telegram messaging app, Ukrinform reported.

“Russian armed forces staged another massive missile attack on Ukraine,” the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) said in its regular morning update.

“The enemy used various types of missiles, including ballistic missiles, and Kharkiv, Kherson, Dnipro, Zaporizhzhia, Lviv and Ivano-Frankivsk regions were hit,” the AFU said.

Air Force Commander Oleshchuk said that in total, the enemy used 34 air-, ground- and sea-launched missiles:

Nine Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles launched from Tu-95MS strategic combers in Russia's Saratov region;
Nine Kh-59/Kh-69 guided aerial missiles launched from the Belgorod region and the Sea of Azov area;
Two S-300 anti-aircraft guided missiles launched from Russia's Belgorod region;
Two Iskander-K cruise missiles launched from Crimea;
Four Kh-47M2 Kindzhal ballistic missiles fired from MiG-31Ks in Russia's Ryazan and Tambov regions;
Eight Kalibr cruise missiles launched from the Black Sea area.

Ukrainian air defenders shot down 21 targets, including:

Six Kh-101/Kh-555 cruise missiles;
Eight Kh-59/Kh-69 guided aerial missiles;
An Iskander-K cruise missile;
Six Kalibr cruise missiles.

A dozen UAVs attempted to attack an oil refinery, a bitumen factory and a military airfield in Russia’s Kuban on the night of 26-27 April.

Details: Kondratyev noted that more than 10 drones were suppressed in the Slavyansky, Seversky and Kushchovsky districts of Krasnodar Krai.

He also said that firefighters were extinguishing fires caused by the fall of the UAVs.

Later, the Head of the Slavyansky district of Krasnodar Krai added that a distillation column at the Slavyansk refinery was damaged during the drone attack.

Local residents said that the Ilsky Oil Refinery in the Seversky District of Krasnodar Krai was attacked. After the UAV attack, a fire broke out at the refinery, and it has almost been extinguished.

Updated: Ukraine’s Energy Ministry cited early reports indicating that strikes were conducted on the Slavyansk ECO oil refinery, a bitumen factory, the Ilsky oil refinery and several other facilities. Fires broke out at some scenes after the attack.

Following information from open sources, a military airfield in the town of Kushchevskaya in Krasnodar Krai also caught fire after a UAV attack.
