Putin will never engage in peace talks. Never... it would be admitting that he cannot outright defeat Ukraine, and that he is no match for the West, either or both of which then starts a domino effect with the other countries in Russia's sphere of influence (a lot of whom are chomping at the bit to get away from them) and other regions within Russia...
He is stuck in Ukraine. He has made it an existential battle for himself.
