Russian War Reparations will do that... I hear Russia has oil and natural gas, that could be managed by some other entity to make sure they pay the reparations.
That's why NATO countries need to use the seized Russian money. We already have what we need, and the congressional bill calls for $8 billion in seized Russian assets to be used exactly that way.
If we follow through with that, it will put pressure on European countries to do the same.

Experienced pilots have a much faster learning curve. I doubt that they are taking new pilots just out of flight school for such an important role.

I don't really care if Germany "gives" Ukraine the Taurus. All Germany needs to do is provide Ukraine with the means of building something similar, pretending they had nothing to do with it, and get out of the way.

I'm about 90% sure they will hit the Kerch bridge in the next month or two. It took too long though, it doesn't even really matter anymore outside of a symbolic win (which is in desperate need).

They took the Ukrainian fighter pilots with the best grasp of the English language first. It wasn’t about seniority or skill although that sure would have been nice to have. Juice would have been the commander of the first F-16 squadron had he not been killed training other pilots. That first group is 6 or 7 pilots. The next group behind them is about 14 pilots and then you have the pilots in the 3rd group who have to basically take extensive English classes before they can even begin training on the F-16. The first batch of half a dozen pilots are ready now. The aircraft coming with them have to be first checked out and signed off that they are ready for flight ops.

I'm sort of curious why they don't hire foreign pilots? There would be plenty of NATO pilots with thousands of F-16 hours who would strap themselves in for mercenary pay.

This won’t give Ukraine the ability to take back what was stolen from them right now, but from a geopolitical perspective, tonight seems to show that the US is in this for the long haul, even when Trump gets back into office.
They better stop fricking around from here on out though, and get things straight, and come up with an actual plan to deter Russian aggression.

Because it’s not nearly as easy as it sounds to form a mercenary air force. Ukraine has plenty of pilots they can train anyway. Some just take longer than others but that is ok because the aircraft are coming in small batches through the end of 2025 where they hope to have 60 F-16s in their fleet.

What gives you that impression? It took forever to get this passed and that's with the vast majority of it going to replenishing the DOD stocks. Biden is going to have a real hard time telling Americans we're throwing another $50-100 billion at Ukraine right before the election if they're still losing ground.
I'm not sure what will happen if Trump wins, he doesn't like to lose, but there might not be any real practical options to help by then. I wish he would stop saying he could end this in a day, we're well past that point.

Oh we already knew there was plenty of air defense. The problem is the Russian radar systems not all that the glossy color brochures say they are.
No one said that they were flying at tree top level, but many thousands of feet up, just like all the passenger airlines you never notice flying high in the sky,
