the fact that the posters here are just refusing to accept that endowment has a correlation to the purchasing power of alumni and if those alumni choose to deploy those funds in a buy recruits world if they wanted to is simply amazing.

You think that the people who have their equity in oil didnt get exponential growth on their capital during the oil boom/ tech boom etc and that there are more of those people from the top tier educational institutions (OSU, UM, UT, TAMU) than LSU??

Is this really the distortion we want to tell ourselves? TAMU just spent 10% of our endowment on recruits to get the best recruiting class of all time. And they can do this every year if they wanted to because their alumni has more money than ours. If Harvard wanted to be competitive at football, theyll do what they did with their law school, business school and every other professional school, they'll put money to it and they'll be number one. The Ivy's dont care... but the public ivys do.

You better believe that if UT, UCLA, USC, UM, OSU decide to pony up funds they will outspend LSU by 4-5-6 fold and theres nothing we can do about it.
