I have an A bolt chambered in 270wsm and an X bolt chambered in 6.5cm.

They are excellent guns. Smooth action and accurate.

I shouldn't have opened this thread either. Now I want a new rifle.

Though I am considering simply taking my model 70 270 and upgrading the glass. This was the first rifle my dad ever gave me when I was about 12, and at the time this 3-9x32 Simmons did the job.

Can’t speak for the newer x-bolts but I love my browning a-bolt from the mid 90’s. It’s a tack driver and the action is smooth as silk. No need to ever replace it. Have the stainless stalker with boss in 270

I've got a .270 and .243 in A-Bolt both from the 90's, even had the exact same stainless stalker with a boss that was stolen. I replaced it with another used A-Bolt .270 but not the stainless stalker.

Same. Thinking I want a 300 PRC.

I’m selling a stainless stalker 270 to fund a Bergara Mountain. In 6.5 CM. Low recoil spoils you. So does nice glass. I sold the Leupold off of it for the same amount I paid almost 20 years ago. Upgraded to Swarovski Z5

What the 300 win mag should have been from jump street. Haven't shot one yet but on paper I love that whole design.

Yep, doing a lot of research and it is very intriguing. Ammo is a bit pricey, but it is with most medium calibers right now.

I never understood why 50's magnums all had belts. Winchester marketing was a bunch of idiots and STILL fell into a gold mine with the "short" magnums.

How somebody didn't say "hey guys, if the whole case was the same OD as the belt, we could still use the same action, fit more powder, get rid of this whole "where does it headspace" thing, it'll feed better, literally does everything better."

Marketing be like "nah bruh, it aint a magnum if it dont have a belt."

While I have not gun hunted in a while, I did a fair amount when I was younger. I never once needed a second shot. Not sure I know anyone who actually has.

You’ve never laid a doe down, only to have it’s yearling pop out of the woods seconds later?

Best backstrap ever.

eta: For real though, semi autos are great when you have hog problems

I’m with you… was just curious. For 1000, I could probably get a better bolt action

Starting to lean in this direction. Great value rifle and invest in some great glass.

Where can you get a left hand 308 savage 110?

That’s what I am looking for but at this point I should probably settle for any left hand rifle.

I have a friend that will sell me his Remington 700 270 so that is an option but it’s a RH rifle.

These days, I think Bergara takes to pot at the "upper end" of the $1k range, however there are lots of sub $600 guns out there that will outshoot most any everyday hunter. Plus you can spend the extra on glass. I have been looking at the Bergaras along with the Howas lately. I had a savage 110 and a Tikka t3 hunter (loved them both) but ultimately sold 1 for a browning x-bolt in 26 nosler which I love even more and the other for a ruger 44 mag carbine which is probably my favorite of my 30+ guns I have.

I have a call with WBY tomorrow. I think I am going with the 7WBY, yea I know I am a pussy but it will allow me to practice as much as I want and not need to ice my shoulder.

That’s the first Weatherby I ever shot. My friend and I were 16 years old and it was his stepdad’s rifle. He let us go out by the Mississippi River to sight it in on an overnight trip with some friends. It was a beautiful Mark V Deluxe. I remember him telling us, “If you frick this gun up, you’d better come home with a tub of Vaseline because I’m going to stick it up your arse.”

Only thing that got messed up was my friend’s eyebrow. Nasty scope kiss.
