Not really. That shite is picked for peak THC, not peak ripeness. I like my trichomes well over 50% amber. Unfortunately it takes an extra 10-14 days that those in commercial production just aren't willing to take.

Washington and Oregon the dealers are R.I.P., except those to minors. Reasonable taxation, retail, and production laws have pretty much wiped out most of the black market. California got greedy with taxes, as per usual.

BM is very much alive and well in Oregon. Taxes or not.

well ya obviously, a "friend" tells me a $100 bag of weed on the corner you get from bob costs you $400 in the dispensary so unless insurance is paying for it nobody will overpay for that lame weak as shite they sell when bob's weed is always better and cheaper

I thought that was a Bee article for sure. Nope. Hahahah, I thought that was one of the main draws to legalize weed, the big sin tax revenues?

Nope, he is very wrong about the black market itself in Oregon.

Perfect example of why the “legalize and tax the hell out of it” crowd are misguided. Legalize it and enjoy your sales and income tax bump, but don’t be greedy. If you heavily tax it, you won’t put the dent in the black market that you should.

Illinois hasn't and will never learn this lesson. My girlfriend and I were just in California for 2 weeks and bought edibles out there because it's so cheap compared to here.

Of the 10 states with legal recreational marijuana regimes, Illinois is home to the second-highest tax burden on retail sales, according to a review of state and local statutes. In Chicago, customers will pay up to 41.25% in taxes on some marijuana products, after factoring in a soon-to-be-passed Cook County excise tax. That total doesn’t even include a 7% state wholesale tax further up the supply chain, which will be passed down to consumers through higher prices.

This might be true in some states but def not WA or OR. Weed is as cheap as I can ever remember.

I go to Oregon a lot and have a buddy that owns a dispensary and he says the black market is mostly minors and has shittier weed that isnt materially cheaper so business is great.

This is a guy that sold pot and other drugs illegally going back to high school

As a personal grower of the cannabis and a person experienced with both sides of the market, I can confirm this is not accurate. Yes, dispensaries have access to high quality product, but any experienced growers have the ability to match or exceed that quality. These are no longer the days of Billy Bob's backyard homegrown swag.
The dealers, more often than not are teamed up with growers as a distribution network. The only real advantage legal commercial growers have (in Cali) is production scale, but then factor in overhead, regulations, licensing and tax at the point of sale and the advantage swings over to the illegal market.

I don't understand why this is directed at me. The poster I responded to made a shitty straw man that taxation and taxation of drugs is not consistent with conservative ideals. I rebuked that and made the argument he was thinking of libertarians.

in my experience there is much more variance and on average lower quality product on the black market. Yes there are exceptions.

Fwiw I am free of all intoxicants including weed for 16 months now. Don't even miss it.

It's what low information cannabis users call crystals. They start clear, go milky, and when finally ripe a delightful golden/amber color. As they ripen THC % goes down, but CBN numbers go up.
