Have any of y'all actually read this and is it worth the effort? I admit I partly want to read it just due to its notorious length, and also just to say I read it. I read Les Miserables last year and found it surprisingly enjoyable.

Any War and Peace hot takes?

Yes, great read. From Russian family drama to the battlefields, Tolstoy brings to light a fantastic historiographical expertise that makes you feel you’re there.

The trick is just keeping track of the Russian family names.

I’ve read it twice. It’s a bit hard to keep track of the characters in first quarter of the book, but it’s a great book.

If you’re intimidated by its length, you can just read one chapter/section per day. Most of them are very short. It’ll take you about a year to do it this way.

It's one of those I'll eventually get to. Finishing up Hemingway and Faulkner's big ones and then I'll get to Tolstoy

Great storytelling, you don't want it to end.

I muddled through it in High school and took a c- on my report highly disappointing my English teacher as my Sister (who was an intellectual) gave a fascinating retort in her summation five years previously.

I’m pretty sure I can take that C- as a gift because he couldn’t stand to give me anything less because of my linage…
