Bloody damn light bringer is almost here! (July 25th)

6th book of the red rising universe drops this month, just finished my reread this morning wrapping up dark age. Forgot just how dark that book was until I got back into it
quote:
The Reaper is a legend, more myth than man: the savior of worlds, the leader of the Rising, the breaker of chains.
But the Reaper is also Darrow, born of the red soil of Mars: a husband, a father, a friend.
Marooned far from home after a devastating defeat on the battlefields of Mercury, Darrow longs to return to his wife and sovereign, Virginia, to defend Mars from its bloodthirsty would-be conqueror Lysander.
Lysander longs to destroy the Rising and restore the supremacy of Gold, and will raze the worlds to realize his ambitions.
The worlds once needed the Reaper. But now they need Darrow, and Darrow needs the people he loves—Virginia, Cassius, Sevro—in order to defend the Republic.
So begins Darrow’s long voyage home, an interplanetary adventure where old friends will reunite, new alliances will be forged, and rivals will clash on the battlefield.
Because Eo’s dream is still alive—and after the dark age will come a new age: of light, of victory, of hope.

I just could not get into the 2nd trilogy.
I read the first one and didn't care for the different view points and HATED what they did to Darrow.
It was all so bleak and felt like it took a massive dump on the first trilogy.
I will need to revisit

That book is easily the worst in the series, imo. The next book still has different POVs but those characters are way less annoying. Lyria, who I did not connect with at all in book 4, is even a strong character in book 5.
Many people say the 5th book is the 2nd best in the series. I don't agree with that. But it's second half is nonstop intense. And the ending sets up book 6 nicely.

I agree with this. Highly recommend powering through Iron Gold because Dark Age is a vast improvement.

Same. But upon subsequent re-listens I appreciate it a lot more. I still think it's the weakest of the series but it does setup Dark Age really well.

Speaking of, Tim Gerard Reynolds is the sole narrator for Light Bringer audiobook.

Mike’s Book Reviews (PB interview)
He mentions it around the 35 minute mark. He felt some of the other narrators weren’t as enthusiastic as Tim so he decided to go back to just the GOAT.

Reynolds is one of my favorites. I have found a lot of good stuff to listen to simply by searching for his name.
Him, Simon Vance, Michael Page, Stephen Pacey are my Rushmore I think.

I also really like Ray Porter and Nick Podehl.

Ray Porter is another good one. I liked him in Project Hail Mary and the Jack Carr books.

I’m about 200 pages in and man I think I need to go back and reread some, it’s been so long Im lost like this where I started reading the series

Same thing. I'm about halfway through. After I started, I stopped to go read a brief series refresher to recall characters names & locations where key events took place. I couldn't remember some stuff after the long layoff.
I'll give a non spoiler opinion after I am finished but I am loving it so far.

Where are you reading this?? I need it badly

In the beginning of the book there is a list of character names. I'm still a bit confused though. Especially when it comes to Lysanders portions.
