Former LSU stars Jayden Daniels and Malik Nabers revealed that they canceled their $10,000 friendly bet on who would win the Offensive Rookie of the Year after learning about the NFL's gambling policy. Per On3:
quote:

“We were uneducated on the gambling policy in the NFL,” Daniels said. “We learned about it last night. Me and him had a conversation and we canceled the bet. Obviously, we don’t want to get in trouble with anything. We’re just focused on being the best players for our respective teams.”

Nabers confirmed Daniels story on Friday.

“I’m educated now that I got here about sports betting and gambling,” Nabers said. “We’re calling the bet off. There is no bet now. It was just another brother pushing another brother to try to get to success. That is all it was.”

That’s like betting on a golf shot. All about the optics I guess.

This is among the least egregious rookie things but I'm genuinely curious--doesn't the NFL have any rookie webinars teaching the basics?

As in no gambling / no unregistered guns / no drugs in the car / leave any arguments with idiots who pick on you (Alvin Kamara) / here's the list of banned substances off-field and penalties on-field that get you fined / no racing on Las Vegas streets / nothing good happens at bars and clubs after midnight / you can afford Uber now if you go out / don't buy a Lambo (you'll go broke with insurance and repairs) / don't buy your parents that $2m house (they'll go broke paying property taxes)

That's essentially 1 friggin PDF poster printed out for the fridge / Less than 1 hr of education and NFL has 100 dudes who went from filthy rich to dirty broke they could and should pay to tell their crash-burn stories

They do have seminars for rookies on things like this and other general life and finance info. But I don’t think they’ve held those 2024 classes yet.

It's regarded to think this could be a conflict of interest.

But I understand. It's easier to just have a blanket ban than to try to evaluate each bet.

Could have carried on with it and not made the bet public knowledge. We get it...you guys make stupid amounts of money and can afford these crazy wagers with each other. No need to brag.

If either one played for the Saints , Roger Goodell would have brought the hammer down. Probably ban the player and the team for the year

So we live in an age when no one understands the difference between a wager with a casino or service, and two friends saying, " I bet you...."
