On Monday, ESPN Senior Writer Mark Schlabach released his Post-Spring Top 25 Rankings and slotted LSU at No. 14.

Here's what he had to say about the Tigers.

14. LSU Tigers
Spring update: The Tigers are going to have a new look on offense, as Heisman Trophy-winning quarterback Jayden Daniels and star receivers Malik Nabers and Brian Thomas Jr. have left for the NFL. Quarterback Garrett Nussmeier picked up from where he left off in the bowl game, completing 7 of 7 passes for 187 yards with two touchdowns in the spring game. With quarterbacks coach Joe Sloan calling plays, Nussmeier looked more than comfortable. Transfer receivers Zavion Thomas (Mississippi State) and CJ Daniels (Liberty) showed they're ready to produce this season. LSU coach Brian Kelly brought in former Missouri defensive coordinator Blake Baker to turn around a unit that ranked 81st in scoring defense (28 points) and 118th in pass defense (255.9 yards) in 2023. The Tigers are still searching for help on the defensive line after Mekhi Wingo and Maason Smith left for the NFL. Defensive end Gabriel Reliford, an early enrollee, was a bright spot in the spring. The Tigers picked up transfer defensive tackle Jay'viar Suggs (Grand Valley State) last week for depth. The secondary continued to have breakdowns in the spring game.

The last sentence is what scares me the most about the ‘24 Tigers. I’m not sure one offseason is enough time for them to “Coach Up” the same group pf DBs as last years historically awful group.

Hope im wrong though.

12-14, almost every year. And, typically, we finish right around there. Safe guess.

That's a fair ranking until the middle of our DL gets tested. Glad we're not higher for expectation purposes.

It’s unfortunate that Larry doesn’t give a shite about is non LSU fans. The rest of the top 25 list would have been a nice addition to this post

Looking at the Teams Ahead of Us: Georgia, Texas and Ole Miss I get. Ohio State has talent but I'm not impressed with Will Howard. Then there are the schools with transfer QBs that make you go (eh): Oregon (Dillon Gabriel), Notre Dame (Riley Leonard), Penn State (Drew Allar), Florida State (DJ Uiagalelei), NC State (Grayson McCall). None of those guys have better NFL potential than Nussmeier. Michigan has a decimated roster and no QB. They are ranked 10th because they won the natty but they should be down in the high teens / low 20s. Utah is based on a lot of faith in Cam Rising bouncing back. Alabama will be good and I think 7th is a fair rank. Ditto Missouri, especially since they have the easiest SEC schedule of any of the SEC's top teams. I would redo this as follows:

1. Georgia
2. Texas
3. Ole Miss
4. Ohio State
5. Alabama
6. Oregon
7. Missouri
8. LSU
9. Utah
10. Notre Dame
11. Tennesee
12. Florida State
13. Clemson
14. Penn State
15. Oklahoma
16. Kansas State
17. NC State
18. USC
19. Miami
20. Arizona
21. Oklahoma State
22. Michigan
23. NC State
24. Virginia Tech
25. Kansas

Oregon could be really good w/Dillon Gabriel (strong system with good coaches returning players and staff and good transfers) but curious to see how West Coast (OR USC UCLA) and Central and Eastern (Mich OSU PSU) time zones will reduce the new Big Ten kids' performance from traveling so far and wide between games
