Dallas Turner Says He Noticed Some Changes In Nick Saban Over The Last Three Years

Alabama pass rusher Dallas Turner spoke to reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine on Monday and said he noticed some small changes in Nick Saban's coaching during his three years on the team. Per ESPN:

"From how he was my freshman to my junior year, I kind of seen a lot of changes and stuff like that," Turner said. "I wasn't surprised. But how it went about, I was kind of surprised. He probably would crack a lot more jokes and stuff like that. It started to be more player-led. It was always since he's been there, but you could tell the players really had a lot of say and he was a lot more open to a lot more ideas and what the players had to say and stuff. But it was all good though.

"He was still the same Coach Saban on the field, of course, but you could tell the slight changes."

There was no doubt that Bama wasn't Bama anymore the last couple years. It was time. He probably stayed a couple years too long to be honest.

Don't think that was it at all. In fact, I don't think that was an issue at all. Age is undefeated. As you get older, and I see it with myself, other things become more important than things that once were important. Nick had lost that "edge" that had made him the best. Little details weren't being covered anymore. He had every right to stay as long as he wanted but he knew the production wasn't there anymore and he always said he would step away when he couldn't be 100 percent the coach he once was.

And he should have clamped down harder on players. But Turner's right. It was obvious. And it was time for him to retire -- though I'd let him coach forever if he wanted to.

I love Saban. I was there in 2003 when he won his national championship at LSU. I watched it with my dad and am forever grateful. However I hate him for making Bama what Bama is. Glad he’s done.
