A new Tacoma TuRD off road with a 4 cyl and cloth seats stickers just south of $60K. With tax and fees, a 5 year loan comes out to almost $1,000 a month. And that is with a $10K down payment. Add insurance and gas, and a mid-size pickup truck becomes a luxury that only a small fraction of the public can comfortably afford. Only folks with a irresponsible financial outlook can afford these things. Economy wrecked going forward.

This has been the left wing plan for over 100 years.

The economy is broke in a lot of ways, but this isn't one of them

As long as people are willing have 84 month notes and buy these, they'll keep making / selling them at this price point. Why wouldn't they?

If it takes you to and from work that allows you to make a living, it is an asset in your life.

A depreciating one of course but if you worry over that, then get a 10 year of RAV4 for $18,000 and keep on kicking it.

A 10 yr old RAV4 should be $7500

1. “Comfortably” is a relative term.
2. Obviously, more than a “small fraction” is willing to pay this price. Otherwise, the price would be lower.

The economy, like the weather, just is. It’s not “broken” just because it’s not doing what you want or expect it to do.

1. Life happens and being way upside down fricks you over

2. People can no longer trade in lots of negative equity into new finances, which is supposedly CRUSHING car sales (and says a lot)

True, but even 84 months makes the truck $800/month. Here in Birmingham, a nice (safe) 1BD apartment is going for $1,500+ a month. This isn't sustainable.

That name has always cracked me up. Can’t believe Toyota (1) named a truck “turd” and (2) has stuck with it for decades.

That was the plan. They want you slaves to debt.

I have a 2017 crew cab F150 XLT. 7 years ago I paid 32k for it. The same truck is 50k now. That's pretty crazy to me. Damn near 60% increase in 7 years.

I didn't say it was sustainable, but until behavior changes, this won't.

Let's be honest, how many guys go out there and by 4x4 diesel F250s / Duramax to never take it any further off road than parking in a yard or hauling some mulch in the bed from home depot. Nothing wrong with buying it, but we'd be lying if we didn't admit people buy lots of shite they don't need then complain about the price.

I love high end watches and the price inflation has been crazy the past ~10 years. But no point in complaining, it's shite none of us need at the end of the day. Despite having numerous nice watches, I can confirm my most accurate Rolex tells time no better than a quartz Timex.

I am just calling out the head of this country that is paying for other people's wars and forgiving things like student loans and letting anyone and everyone in this country illegally. I could keep going but I won't.

Same. I get a vehicle allowance with fuel card and paid business mileage. But I can’t keep a truck longer than 5 years or 200K. And it has to be a full size full crew cab. I plan to work 7 more years and then retire. I have two more years in my current truck, so if everything goes right, I’ll replace my current Ram 1500 Bighorn in 2 years then have the company pay off most or all of my next truck just in time for me to retire with no truck payment.

I keep hearing this, and I can tell the economy is impacting my family directly, but I’m not sure the rest of the country saw the memo. I’ll be damned if I don’t see new Tahoe’s, Suburban’s, Wagoneer’s(this show more than just financial stupidity), and quasi luxury brands like Mercedes/BMW’s/Lexi seemingly everywhere even at the $90K+ prices.

Was in Pensacola for the last 10 days and the complex we stayed in looked like a new car, car lot. Our 2017 van seemed to be the oldest in the garage and we’re very comfortable, financially.. Little Braxton and Jaxson need new rides, I guess, but my kids will have the benefit of developing fortitude because of the struggles brought on by our modern day hoopty.
