First time seeing this thread. Early on someone said Shannon Hoon. A few people picked Keith Whitley.
It would be between those two for me.

It's difficult to mention just one, but looks like most of the prime candidates I would consider were listed. Not sure, did anyone mention Frank Zappa? And speaking of Brian Wilson's brain, same could be said of Syd Barrett of Pink Floyd before LSD led him to be one of the first total acid casualties of the 60's. Would have been interesting to see how much longer LZ would have went on with Bonham. I think Kurt was already burnt out with Nirvana, but minus his drug problems, Layne Staley would have had a lot more to offer. Hank Sr. had too many demons, but besides Zappa, I would go with John Coltrane over Jimi Hendrix. Would Coltrane have gone electric or more of a Pharaoh Sanders direction? As for Hendrix, someone mentioned he may have likely gone in a more blues direction, which is probably true. But at the same time, if he did play with Miles Davis, would this have opened his eyes to more experimentation?

Won't presume to play God but this is a fascinating topic.

For me, would love to have seen:
Ronnie Van Zant
Stevie Ray Vaughan
Shawn Lane

Vaughan was 35 when he also died in a plane crash

Specifically a helicopter (Iranically...see what I did there?)

Alpine Valley, WI was his final show before he boarded. Was there.

Freddy Mercury was 45. Deserves a mention.

Not sure that I like where this was headed so no thanks. Maybe they could have done a Flash Gordon 2 soundtrack. Ten more years of his heyday? Hell yeah, but not just ten more years.

It's my classical training speaking, but Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart is my vote. Just 35 years old and one can only imagine what another ten years would have produced.

For me, the answer to this is Terry Kath (died age 31). He kept Chicago in the rock space for his 10 or so years with the band. His death was followed by a bunch of weird personnel moves and the influence changed over time. They were at their best IMO when led by Kath/Lamm but went way too soft with Cetera and David Foster having more influence. Maybe if Kath lives, they stay more rock and don't fire their drummer, Danny Seraphine.

Brad Nowell of Sublime. How big could they have gotten after their self titled album blew up? Big tours and a lot of money. I’m sure the royalties and album sales took care of everyone anyway.

Not sure if already mentioned because I didn’t read every page but for me it’s Don Rich, him and Buck would have made some more great music together. Buck was never the same without his friend and band mate Don. Sucks
