Scheffler should have stopped. The police officer seems to have overreacted, but Scheffler could have avoided it by stopping when instructed.
Edit: I'm getting a ton of down votes. I still think Scottie should have stopped but from all the reports he didn't seem to understand what was going on and other golfers were doing the same thing, so it's understandable. The officer overreacted and should have deescalated the situation instead of going on a power trip. I'm shocked at the charges they hit Scheffler with.

Sounds like the cop wasn't a golf fan

Yeah Darlington said one of the cops asked him can you please tell me the name of the person we arrested, lol

Scheffler should have stopped.

I’m a cop and listening to Darlington it sounds like an arse chewing and then I would say “go win the golf tournament”. I don’t know why LPD has reflective vests with absolutely no markings on it either.

Hope espn does not report is like darlington is saying because that will turn alot of people off….so just because you are a golfer and the #1 player in the world…you do not have to stop….that screams entitlement

I’ve worked 100 things like this. It happens but you don’t arrest the person unless they go crazy

Scottie going low low if he makes that tee time

Yeah sounds like a misunderstanding, it was dark and raining and the officer had a yellow jacket on over his uniform top plus don’t forget that a pedestrian was hit and killed near the entrance by a shuttle bus about an hour before so I’m sure it was a pretty stressful situation for everyone already.

If bodycams confirm what is being reported than Scheffler put an officer in harms way and deserved to at the least be detained. If it was important enough to get to the course he could tried to talk to the officers and explain the situation. Or he could have called a tournament official and asked how to proceed.

LMPD going to probably going to use this as an excuse to get a bigger budget for more equipment. Despite their 22% salary increase over the next 4 years.

Should Scottie have immediately stopped instead of making the turn? Yes. Is what he did enough to arrest him and take him to jail? I would lean towards no.
Also at these tournaments every player/person involved in the tournament is driving the exact same car and they are all marked. If they were allowing players to enter, the officer probably should have known that.

If it was raining what was his hurry? And a person in a yellow jacket in an area with a lot of red lights on cars turned on would make me think they were a safety official of some sort. Why not roll down the window and talk to them rather than drive off?

Scheffler probably operating on 1 hour of sleep with the newborn to be fair.

Last heard he's still being detained. Monahan and the PGA are very busy this morning.
