Should I up the difficulty setting, or are higher settings just kind of annoying and spongy?

I don’t go out of my way to make games painfully difficult (that’s what Dark Souls is for ), so I generally play games on their default on a first run through (like HFW now), but will bump games up on subsequent playthroughs, or just to avoid boredom, if the default is distractingly easy.

Play on lethal. Tighter parry and dodge windows and enemies do a ton of damage, but you do too. Fights are over pretty quickly and it's still satisfying because you have a lower margin for error

Hard mode (what I played on since lethal mode wasn't patched in yet) is a little more difficult because the enemies are spongier, but it gets old wailing on the same elite mongol. Still piss easy

Coming immediately off of several DkS1 runs, I'm having to re-learn some muscle memory (what the frick do you mean I can't parry a fricking spear, you fricking casual?!? ), but I'm really enjoying it thus far. I obviously don't know what the lower difficulties are like, but Lethal has been brutally, gloriously unforgiving, which is going to help with the get good. Though in the interim, god damn, the throat slitting as a finisher on PC death is a hell of a thing
