Was looking around my area for a GMC AT4 in the 1/2 ton range and they were listed in the 70's. A few months back they were mid-50's so I'd say yeah.... still not time to buy unless you find a deal.

Our neighbors have a huge 5th wheel, and a F250 and F350 Dually. They are pretty cool neighbors, and I was happy to help them by picking them up when the tranny went out on their brand new F250 a couple years ago, and picked him up from the shop when the F350's tranny went out.

Just sayin'. Maybe ask a mechanic that works on all breeds and not rely on super fans to give honest feedback. But if you go with Ford, make sure you have a mechanic you trust. ;-)

Thanks to everyone that responded. I'm leaning towards going with a 3/4-ton gasser with a basic trim level if a travel trailer is in our future. I've talked with several people that have campers, and none of them liked the idea of pulling with a half-ton, regardless of whether or not it's possible.

If we don't buy a camper, I'm thinking about a Toyota. I know the new Tacoma is coming out later this year with their long-awaited redesign, but I'm not sure about buying the first year of a new model. And I'm assuming it won't be easy getting my hands on one at a reasonable price anyway. So, maybe Tundra?

I don't know. Like a few of you have mentioned, it's probably not an ideal time. Thanks again for the input, baws.

ETA- Also, is Houston still generally regarded as the cheapest place to buy a truck these days?

Fred Haas in Spring is the largest Tundra dealer in the US. Try there first for Toyota pricing

Once you start talking 5th wheels, you oughta have a dually.

I pulled my last two with a 1/2 ton.

So, maybe Tundra?

3x Tundra owner here, have been nothing but happy with it. Just take into account the MPG sacrifice you'll make vs the other brands. Not that big now with no V8, I guess, but it's still real if you are logging a lot of miles.

To be fair, I've owned 3 Chevy's and really had no big issues either.

No. ….the dozer is -8500 and the trailer close to 4k. It’s rated for 14000.I set the bags at 60# and load the dozer where you see it there. I’d like a larger dozer but will buy a gooseneck and larger truck if I go that route. This setup tows nice.

Sweet rig, but I was talking about the RV.

People focus on towing capacity, when GVWR, payload capacity are the real constraint with goosenecks and 5th wheels, especially on 3/4-tons and below.

How do you like that d20? Does it have enough arse to rip out roots? I need to clear some land and i want to build a crawfish pond, do you think it would be big enough for that?

It pushes small trees and brush pretty hard but doesn’t like hard ground and large trees . I use it for clearing fence rows and making food plots for hunting .It’s perfect for that. Large trees and stumps will need something bigger than this size . It’s great for pushing after trees and the like pulled out with an excavator. We cleared 2 acres of brush in a couple days last summer doing that. I was on the excavator taking down trees and my wife was on the dozer pushing it into piles.

I won't say I've looked super hard, but seem like I haven't seen less than high 60s for a few years.

It seems like you and I have roughly the same use case. I’ve pretty much settled on a 3/4 ton 2024 Chevrolet 2500hd. I joined all the Facebook groups for 5.7 hemi rams, 6.4 hemi rams, 6.6 GM, new tundras, and 7.3 f250s more than a year ago. Not really considering f150s or 1/2 ton GMs because I personally know so many people with ten speed issues.

I picked a ‘24 because they are bringing back the bow tie, the interior is getting refreshed, and the gas and diesels will both have the ten speed Allison. If I could find a deal on a ‘23 Sierra with the 6 speed I’d get one, I test drove a few and they are very nice. If I was getting a half ton I’d get a ram for the only remaining semi normal half ton powertrain.

In the silverados, only the LT and up will get the interior redesign. I’m basically out in the fords and rams 3/4 gassers due to cost and mpg.

Every time I build one online equally equipped it is. I know they have good incentives on ones that have been sitting on the lot. You can get a great deal on a tradesman.

I've got the 2022 Tundra and I tow a 32' 5th wheel with it. Had to do some rear suspension aftermarket upgrades, but pulls it fine. Good thing is you can still have a 1/2 ton ride when you don't need the extra beef in the suspension and stiffer 3/4 ride. Pulled it from BR up into northwest Arkansas through the Ozarks and I was pleasantly surprised. I was passing up big rigs going up some pretty good grades. If you have time to order or wait, you can get the adjustable air rear suspension option built-in, and not have to add anything aftermarket.

You’ll be happy to know that’s actually the same GM/Ford 10 speed with the Allison name thrown on it by the marketing dept.
