If not for my Texas trips, my freezer would be pretty empty.

2 does, a Javelina and a cull (old) 10 point, all in Texas with my .270.

1 Javelina with a .22 Magnum the morning I grabbed the wrong gun case

1 Spike in MS with the .270. Might take my son’s 7MM-08 this weekend and try it on a doe.

Very jealous. My freezer is almost empty again already. Going to need to catch a whole lotta fish to make up for the total lack of deer killin

One bolt shot all year. 8 point bow only county in Georgia.

Son shot two deer 9 point and a doe with a bow. Same county.

No hunts with a gun. Except some good duck hunts in SW Oklahoma.

Need to break my new .308 in before the season is over.

30-06 180 grain sst 8 point. Only thing I've shot at. Been fighting sinuses and haven't felt up to hunting much. A buddy gave me meat from 2 bucks so my freezer is full. We planned to kill 6 does this year and I'm gonna let my 2 partners have mine if they want them I think.

How do you like your 6.5x55?

How well does it do in the field as compared to your larger calibers?

Regarding the 6.5x55, I’ve had it for 20 years now and killed over 30 deer with it including several big bucks. You put the bullet where it needs to go and the deer dies quickly. I get a kick out of the constant questions and debate on the OB regarding best calibers for deer, everything from 243 to 338 being the”best”. I have killed deer with over 20 different cartridges and will undoubtedly be ridiculed and down voted for saying it really does not matter. Anything between 243 and 338 will do the job on deer. Just depends on your recoil tolerance.

Back to the 6.5x55, it is relatively light recoiling and very effective. I could hunt with it the rest of my life and never feel under gunned.

Mature old 6 point- .308 w/ 130gr TTSX
Mature 9 point- .308 w/ 130gr TTSX

These were the only two bucks that were on the hit list at the beginning of season and never had another mature buck show up. Killed the 6 point Nov. 3rd, killed the 9 point Dec. 18th.

I've killed most of my deer in my life with 6.5x55. First one when I was 5 years old

Its a fantastic deer caliber. Light recoil and great penetration. Its a handloaders wet dream, but I've killed all my deer with normal factory stuff.

It requires a long action.

All of my kills are with handloads, 140 gr Nosler Ballistic Tips at about 2750 fps. My rifle is a CZ 550 FS

As stated before I have killed over 20 deer including several big bucks and I have only lost 1 deer that I shot. I am sure I hit him low in the body.

I have not had a problem “crippling “ deer.

Niceeeeeee

Mines a custom job. Matching numbers m96 chopped and bedded with a timmney trigger. It shoots great. My first rifle was a M96 matching numbers that my old man bubba'd up into a kids rifle. Damn thing shoots really good. My brother and I both killed a pile of deer with it over the years.

I really like the caliber a lot and never understood why it wasn't immensely popular in the US. It's always been a top seller in Europe. I guess the non-standard bolt face is what kept it from being a popular offering here.
